Shelton PD: 18-year-old accused of sexually assaulting 14-year-old
SHELTON — An 18-year-old was charged Tuesday after police investigated a complaint of a sexual assault from last summer.
Alexander Liebhart, 18, of Shelton, was charged with second-degree sexual assault and risk of injury to a child, police said Wednesday.
The arrest stemmed from a complaint filed with the Shelton Police Detective Bureau. A 14-year-old Shelton girl claimed she was sexually assaulted by a man near the Riverwalk on Canal Street, police said. She told detectives the assault happened in Shelton in Aug. 2018.
“The victim did not know the man well and did not know his real name,” police said. “The victim claimed the man got her intoxicated then assaulted her.”
After an investigation by the Shelton Police Department’s Youth Officer, Liebhart was identified as the suspect and police applied for an arrest warrant.
Liebhart was held on a $75,000 bond and appeared in Derby Superior Court Tuesday. There were no updated court records available for him Wednesday.
