Festival of Trees market is set for this weekend
SOUTH POINT, Ohio — While it will be a little tougher to get to this year, the Greater Lawrence County Area Chamber of Commerce will hold the Festival of Trees Christmas Market at the chamber offices on Collins Street this weekend.
The South Point roundabout project, which is scheduled to be completed by the end of the year, will force those interested in getting to the chamber offices to use County Road 1.
There are several new programs at the festival this year, according to Shirley Dyer, chamber president. They include more vendors, live reindeer, a drive-through Nativity scene by more than a dozen local churches and a 5K Luminary Walk/Run along roads in the industrial park at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15.
“We’ll have two tents for vendors this year,” Dyer said. “It’s going to be a very exciting weekend.”
Some 30 vendors have signed up to participate in the Festival of Trees scheduled from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on both Friday, Nov. 16, and Saturday, Nov. 17.
While admission is free, donations are sought for the drive-through Nativity scene. There also is a cost of $20 for the 5K and $25 the day of the race. The 5K race will be held in the dark, but the race track will be lighted.
Decorated Christmas trees will be up for bid as in past years, Dyer said. Live reindeer will be on display from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday and 1 to 6 p.m. Saturday. Santa Claus will be available both days, she said.
The drive-through Nativity scene will be open from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday. It is sponsored by Jeremiah 38 Ministries and Quality Care Nursing Service. Fifteen local churches are participating and there will be 14 scenes of the life of Christ, Dyer said.
Kids Day activities are scheduled Saturday. It includes a magic show, balloon art, cookies and milk and face painting from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday. Admission is a can of food.
