Patberg wins two Big-8 title
PRINCETON — Mount Carmel’s Stone Patberg finished as a two-time winner at the Big-8 Conference track and field meet in Princeton.
The conference meet started Thursday but was delayed until Friday after lightning caused the postponement.
The Aces finished a solid fifth with 43 points. Princeton edged Jasper, 138-126, to claim the team title.
Boonville finished third with 88 points followed by Mt. Vernon, IN with 61 points for a fourth-place finish.
Mount Carmel’s 43 points placed them in fifth-place followed by Vincennes Lincoln in sixth with 23 points and Washington in seventh with 17 points.
Patberg won the first of his two conference titles on Thursday winning the High Jump at 6-01. Then on Friday, Patberg posted the best preliminary time in the 110-Meter Hurdles at 16.34 to qualify for the finals.
From there, Patberg secured the 110 title with a finals time of 16:48. Patberg also earned points for the Aces with a third-place showing in the 300-Meter Hurdles with a time of 43.98.
Zach Whittler picked up points for Mount Carmel in two events. In the 100-Meter Dash, Whittler was seventh with a time of 11.91 then in the 200-Meter Dash, Whittler placed fifth with a time of 24.34.
Brayden Stipp was third in the 400-Meter Dash with a time of 52.39. He was eighth in the 200-Meter Run with a time of 25.55.
The Aces’ 4x100 Meter Relay team finished third with a time of 46.27 and sixth in the 4x400 relay with a time of 4:04.30 and sixth in the 4x800 relay with a time of 9:59.36.
The Aces will compete Thursday at the Salem Sectional.
