Komets are maxed on vets
I have been getting this question a lot: Are the Komets at their limit on the number of veterans they can sign?
The answer is yes.
The Komets can max out at four veterans and they have captain Jamie Schaafsma, defenseman Cody Sol, forward Justin Hodgman and newcomer forward Garret Ross, who played last season for the higher-level American Hockey League’s Rochester Americans.
Ross had seven goals and 13 points in 51 games and has spent his entire professional career in the AHL.
What constitutes a veteran in the ECHL? They have 260 games of regular-season experience on their record in the pro ranks. This doesn’t include goalies.
There are some provisions in which a team can skirt this rule if they get a player assigned to them from a higher-level club : in the case of the Komets, by the NHL’s Vegas Golden Knights or the AHL’s Chicago Wolves : but it takes a bit of work to get it done.
The point, for now, is that the Komets can’t bring in another free-agent veteran.
