Roger Mosher, former leader of JG news desk, dies at 67

Roger L. Mosher of Batavia, New York, who worked for 20 years at The Journal Gazette and edited newspapers in Indiana and New York, died Thursday at the Wyoming County Community Nursing Facility in Warsaw, New York. He was 67.

Mosher, a Fort Wayne native, started his journalism career at the Huntington Herald-Press, then served in several roles at The Journal Gazette, including leading its news desk in the late 1980s.

He became editor of the Shelbyville News in 1990, and was named editor and publisher of the Batavia Daily News in 1993, where he served for nine years.

Surviving are his wife, Sharon; a daughter, Melanie Mosher of Indianapolis; a sister, Lonnie Gillespie of Endicott, New York; his mother, Dorothy of Indiana; and several nieces and nephews.

Services at 1 p.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church, Batavia. No calling. A private memorial service will be held Feb. 17 in Fort Wayne. Memorials to the church. Arrangements by Gilmartin Funeral Home & Cremation Co. Inc., Batavia.
