Ronna McDaniel: Republicans cannot become complacent in 2018

February 23, 2018

Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel said Friday that her party cannot become complacent in the 2018 midterms.

“We’ve surpassed every fundraising record,” Ms. McDaniel said during an appearance on Fox News. “We’ve got to keep that going, and I think Vice President Pence is right. We need that urgency going into these midterms because we have something to fight for. We’ve got to protect America’s comeback.”

She acknowledged that the party has lost some seats in the off-year and special elections, but said those results are overemphasized.

“I think when you win 900 legislative seats under the term of Barack Obama, you’re going to lose some here and there,” she said. “And they’re being given outweighed credibility and attention.”

One state race in Kentucky, where President Trump won by a hefty margin, flipped from Republican to Democrat, showing some possible vulnerability among the president’s base for the first time. But Mrs. McDaniel called it a “anomaly” and not cause for concern.
