Spring Valley girls beat Capital 59-41

HUNTINGTON — Sydney Meredith scored 14 points as Spring Valley got a balanced effort in a 59-41 win over Capital in high school girls basketball action on Wednesday night.

In addition to Meredith’s production, the Timberwolves got 13 points from Bre Saunders and 10 points from Haley McComas, who also had nine steals and six rebounds. Ella Edwards added a team-high 13 rebounds to go with seven points.

The Timberwolves used a big second quarter to open up a 28-16 lead at halftime after the teams had played even through one period.

Talayah Boxley scored 10 points to lead Capital in the loss.

Spring Valley returns to action on Friday when the Timberwolves travel to George Washington.

SOUTH POINT 62, ROCK HILL 56: Chance Gunther scored 25 and Austin Webb 14 as the Pointers (6-5 overall, 3-3 Ohio Valley Conference) held off the Redmen in Pedro, Ohio. Marcus Malone scored 12. Rock Hill (3-8, 0-6) was led byOwen Hankins with 19 points. Kadin France scored 16 points and snatched 11 rebounds. Logan Hankins added 10 points.

NEW BOSTON 83, IRONTON ST. JOE 62: Tyler Caldwell scored 21 and Kyle Sexton 20 in the Tigers’ triumph over the Flyers in New Boston, Ohio. Marcus Saunders chipped in 11 for New Boston (8-5). Zach Roach paced Ironton St. Joe (9-3) with 25 points. Jackson Rowe chipped in 10.

GALLIA ACADEMY 62, PORTSMOUTH 44: Cory Call scored 22 to help the Blue Devils beat the home-standing Trojans. Matthew Fraulini led Portsmouth with nine points.

ASHLAND 74, ROSE HILL CHRISTIAN 39: Ethan Hudson scored 22, 15 in the first quarter, to aid the Tomcats (9-8) in a victory over the Royals (2-18). Devaunte Robinson and Hunter Mays each scored 13 and Ryan Atkins 11. Kenny Wilburn led Rose Hill Christian with 18.

BOYD COUNTY 68, LEWIS COUNTY 58: Blake Stewart scored 15 and pulled down 16 rebounds as the Lions won in Summit, Kentucky. Talbott Taylor scored 17 and Brad Newsome 13. Cameron Ruckel led Lewis County with 15 points. Seth Wright scored 14, Sam O’Keefe 13 and Zach Robersion 12.

WAHAMA 50, EASTERN MEIGS 48: Jacob Lloyd’s 3-pointer with 33 seconds left lifted the White Falcons (2-10 overall, 2-6 Tri-Valley Conference) to an upset of the Eagles (7-4, 5-3) in Mason, West Virginia. Lloyd led Wahama with 24 points. Colton Reynolds paced Eastern-Meigs with 10 points.

SOUTHERN 68, SOUTH GALLIA 54: Jensen Anderson scored 18 and led the Tornadoes (5-6 overall, 4-4 TVC) to a win over the injury-and illness-depleted Rebels (9-4, 5-3) in Racine, Ohio. Brayden Cunningham and Weston Thorla each scored 10. Braxton Hardy scored 23 for South Gallia. C.J. Mayse added 13 points and 10 rebounds.

ATHENS 63, RIVER VALLEY 44: The Bulldogs (9-3 overall, 7-0 TVC) made 28 of 53 shots (53 percent) in a home victory over the Raiders (2-10, 0-7). Logan Maxfield led Athens with 16 points. Justin Hynes scored 12 and Brayden Whiting 10. Layne Fitch paced River Valley with 12 points. Jordan Lambert chipped in 10.

MEIGS 62, WELLSTON 32: The Marauders (7-7 overall, 4-3 TVC) forced 31 turnovers in pounding the Rockets (2-9, 1-6). Cooper Darst led Meigs with 16 points. Weston Baer and Coulter Cleland each scored 13. Zane Ervin led Wellston with eight points.

ROWAN COUNTY 49, RUSSELL 40: Brady Madden scored 16 to lift the Vikings (16-2) over the Red Devils (5-12) in Flatwoods, Kentucky. Devin Davidson scored 11. Tristan Miller led Russell with 17 points.

SCOTT 70, WINFIELD 57: Jon Jon Hamilton hit four 3-pointers for 22 points and the host Skyhawks opened the game on a 26-5 run. Jagger Bell scored 17 and Hunter Adkins added 11 for Scott (10-5). Christian Frye fired in 18 points to lead the Generals (5-6).

POCA 57, LINCOLN COUNTY 37: The Dots snapped the Class AA No. 9 Panthers’ 11-game winning streak behind a pair of double-doubles from Bronson Skeens and Evan McKneely in Hamlin, West Virginia. McKneely led all scorers with 16 and pulled down 11 rebounds, and Skeens had 15 points and 10 boards. Freshman Isaac McKneely scored 16 for Poca (7-4).
