NHP seeks witnesses in pedestrian fatal on US 50 near Dayton
CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — The Nevada Highway Patrol is seeking additional witnesses as it investigates the death of a pedestrian in Lyon County who was hit by a vehicle Sunday on U.S. Highway 50 near Dayton.
The patrol identified the victim Wednesday as 63-year-old John Elvis Jones of Dayton.
Investigators say Jones had dismounted his ATV and was in the left turn lane of the highway when he was hit shortly after 7:30 p.m. Sunday near a Maverick Gas Station at the intersection of Mark Twain Avenue about 6 miles (10 kilometers) northeast of Dayton.
Trooper Hannah DeGoey said Wednesday they have determined Jones was struck by a black, westbound 2013 Dodge Journey.
One witness came forward Monday morning after investigators announced they were looking for a burgundy SUV. DeGoey says they hope more witnesses will contact the patrol as the investigation continues.
