Let’s talk crops!

Happy New Year everyone! I hope everybody had a great holiday season full of family, friends, food and celebration. I was on hiatus in Indiana, helping with my family operation. We were busy bringing lambs into the world!

This week I want to let everyone know the pesticide certification meeting schedule and chemigation meetings for around the area. Nebraska Extension in Platte, Boone & Nance Counties will present educational sessions where you may recertify or extend your pesticide certification. The program fee is $40 for this session. If you know other producers in need of having this certification for the first time or need to reestablish their certification, they are also invited to attend. The training schedule below are opportunities where you may attend a private pesticide applicator training for initial certification or to recertify:

• 1 p.m., Jan. 30 in Fullerton, Extension Conference Room

• 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., Jan. 31 in Columbus, Ag Park

• 1 p.m., Feb. 7 in Lindsay, Lindsay Town Hall

• 1 p.m., Feb. 11 in Albion, Casey’s Community Bldg., Fairgrounds

• 6 p.m., Feb. 11 in Fullerton, Extension Conference Room

• 1 p.m., Feb. 20 in Columbus, Ag Park

• 9 a.m., March 11 in Fullerton, Extension Conference Room

• 6 p.m., March 11 in Albion, Casey’s Community Bldg., Fairgrounds

If you have recently received a “bar-coded” letter from the Nebraska Department of Agriculture about your need to recertify, please bring this letter to the private applicator training session. Those who forget to bring this “bar-coded” letter will need to complete the NDA paper form that will be provided. There are two other opportunities to renew your license:

Self-Study Online Training- This program will be new for 2019. Use this link to access the program https://psep.education/applicator/. The cost of self-study is $75.

Chemigation training will also be offered at 6 p.m. on Feb. 20 at Ag Park and 1 p.m. March 11 in the Casey’s Building located on the Boone County Fairgrounds.
