WNCC hosts Veterans event on Sept. 23
SCOTTSBLUFF — The Military and Veterans Affairs Office at Western Nebraska Community College hosts its fourth annual Service Women Attaining Power (SWAP) event Saturday, September 23, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Panhandle Public Health District, located at 1930 East 20th Place, Suite 400 in Scottsbluff.
Collaborators in the event include Nebraska VA Vocational Rehabilitation and the Cheyenne Vet Center. WNCC Military and Veterans Affairs Director Christine Wolf encourages all female veterans to attend.
Admission is free and registration begins at 9:30 a.m. when attendees meet and greet over coffee and rolls.
“We are excited to be abler to offer SWAP again for all female veterans who have or are currently serving, says Wolf. “It’s a wonderful opportunity to get to know new people and share experiences. Our hope is for our area veterans of all ages, branches and experiences to come together.”
Beth Lynn, former American Legion State Department Commander for Nebraska, and Nan Cushing, former WNCC Upward Bound assistant director, will be the featured keynote speakers and will discuss dealing with stress.
The organizers plan to incorporate fun activities throughout the day to encourage comradeship and help build friendly connections.
“This year we will offer a paint and sip event with mocktails,” says Wolf. Our painting instructor, Stacey Bolin from Potter, Nebraska, is a veteran herself and will be directing us in our painting projects.”
Attendees may register in advance by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or calling the Military and Veterans Affairs Office at the WNCC Scottsbluff Campus at 308-635-6042.
