Mohave knocks off River Valley: Playoff-bound Lady T-birds victorious 4-1
MOHAVE VALLEY — The Lady T-birds went on the road to top their friendly Lady Dust Devil rivals 4-1 at River Valley High School’s senior night during an Arizona Interscholastic Association Division II, Section II beach volleyball match Friday.
“It was a pretty darn good senior night,” Dust Devils head volleyball coach John Bundy said.
The No. 7-ranked Mohave High School squad is one of eight teams — out of 15 Division II high schools — that earned a playoff berth, while the Dust Devils completed their season.
The postseason begins April 25.
“I want to give credit to River Valley,” said T-birds head coach Zdenko Radic. “This is the third time we played them in the season and every time we play them they get better and better. So, credit to coach and the girls for improving their season.”
Both teams played their first season of beach volleyball.
“For Mohave, I think we’re getting the hang of that, too. how to play the sport and we’re getting more focused on the playoffs and we did what we needed to do,” Radic said.
Mohave’s record is 8-4 overall, 8-4 in division and 6-2 in section, according to aiaonline.org. River Valley’s record is 2-10 overall, 2-10 in division and 1-7 in section.
River Valley’s Angela Hamm and Chaise Cunningham beat Mohave’s Savanna Frei and Daniela Gomez, as all four seniors competed in a battle of the No 2 teams.
Mohave’s Natasha Radic and Maya Radic beat River Valley’s Harmony Owens and Allison Wheatcroft during a set between the No. 1 teams.
Mohave’s Ashley Salzer and Keelyn Seabury beat River Valley’s Gracie Gunsalus and Hailey Eldridge during a set between the No. 3 teams.
Mohave’s Bree Lipinski and Lilly Bouchard beat River Valley’s Katrina Wheatcroft and Zoey Bruner in a set featuring the No. 4 teams.
Mohave’s Oakley Heaton and Natalie Willmore topped Jaylinn Trautwein and Joelle Rieder during a game between the No. 5 teams.
