Marshall School of Theatre opens Shakespeare comedy, “As You Like It” on Wednesday
HUNTINGTON - The Marshall University School of Theatre opens its spring semester production of the classic Shakespeare comedy, “As You Like It” at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 18.
The production will take place at 7:30 p.m. through Saturday, April 21 in the Joan C. Edwards Performing Arts Center.
One of William Shakespeare’s great comedies, “As You Like It,” his eighth comedy, subverts the traditional rules of romance, confusing gender roles, nature, and politics. Uncertain of their standing in court and fearing for their lives, Rosalind (played by Abby Yazvac) and Orlando (played by Ethan Lyvers) are forced into exile in the Forest of Arden, only to become entangled in a beguiling game of love, lust, and mistaken identity.
The production is directed by guest artist Terry Layman, whose Broadway credits include “Cat On A Hot Tin Roof” (with Scarlett Johansson), “Twelve Angry Men,” “Proof” (with Anne Heche) and “The Ride Down Mount Morgan” (with Patrick Stewart). Layman is also an adjunct professor and director at the Hartt School in Connecticut.
Tickets are available by calling the Joan C. Edwards Performing Arts Center box office at Box Office: 304-696-ARTS (2787). Faculty/staff tickets are $15. MU students are admitted with a valid I.D. General admission tickets are $20 and children 5-12, get in for $7.
