Sheriff: Pot grow owner, would-be robber dead in shootout
SIMLA, Colo. (AP) — Authorities believe the owner of an illegal marijuana grow on Colorado’s Eastern Plains and a suspected robber died after a shootout.
Two bodies were found at the 31-acre property west of the town of Simla about 50 miles (80 kilometers) northeast of Colorado Springs, on Thursday morning — 48-year-old property owner Donn Zorens and 30-year-old Luis Suarez of El Paso County.
The Elbert County Sheriff’s Office said Friday that it appears that Suarez forced his way into Zoren’s home and that a gunfight erupted during an attempted home invasion robbery. Investigators are asking anyone with information about what happened to contact the sheriff’s office.
