HOUSTON (AP) _ Astros second baseman Jeff Kent was placed on the 15-day disabled list Friday because of tendinitis in his left wrist, which already has caused him to miss seven games.

Kent has 11 home runs and leads the team with 50 RBIs. He received a cortisone shot on June 22 and team physician Tom Mehlhoff said an examination revealed no structural damage. The move to the disabled list was retroactive to June 19.

Infielder David Matranga will be recalled from Triple-A New Orleans to take Kent's place on the roster. Matranga has two home runs and 19 RBIs in 60 games with New Orleans.

Meanwhile, the team said infielder Jose Vizcaino underwent successful surgery Friday on his broken left wrist. He should be able to begin range-of-motion exercises in about a week.

Vizcaino was injured when he was hit by a pitch from Arizona reliever Stephen Randolph in the seventh inning of Tuesday night's 12-5 Diamondbacks' victory.
