Lunenburg Baseball Keeps Hope Alive
LEOMINSTER — The Lunenburg baseball team made a statement with Monday’s doubleheader sweep over St. Bernard’s at McLaughlin Park.
After the back-to-back victories, 15-6 in the early game and 9-1 in the nightcap, the Blue Knights (8-9) need two more wins in their final three games to lock up a spot in the district tournament. Lunenburg will face North Middlesex on Tuesday, Maynard Wednesday and Bromfield on Monday.
Josh Proctor went the distance to earn the win in Monday’s early game. Cooper Mathews and Alan Hyatt each finished with three hits and a pair of doubles in the victory.
Domenic Cuevas had three hits for St. Bernard’s.
In the nightcap, Hyatt went the distance and chipped in with a pair of hits, and Proctor added a double.
For St. Bernard’s, Keegan Sharp doubled.
High school softball
MONTY TECH 5, Assabet Valley 0 — Kristina Sigurdsson narrowly missed out on a no-hitter, allowing one hit with two outs in the sixth inning. She struck out seven and walked three in the dominant performance.
Offensively for Monty Tech (12-5), Cassie Skinner (3 for 3, 2 runs, steal), Taylor Jollimore (2 for 3, double, RBI, run, steal), Bailey McNamara (1 for 3, 2 RBIs) and Hannah Seymour (triple) helped lead the way.
WACHUSETT 3, Nashoba 2 — Matt Colbert (6-1, 6-3) and Nathan Haberle (6-2, 6-2) won their singles matches for Nashoba Regional (2-14).
WACHUSETT 3, Nashoba 2 — Nashoba played back-to-back matches on Monday at Wachusett Regional in Holden. In the early match, Nashoba’s doubles teams both prevailed. Emily Boucher and Alexa Konstantinidis won at first doubles, 7-5, 6-2, and the second-doubles team of Leah Farinella and Eugenia Kovtun also won, 6-4, 0-6, 10-6.
NASHOBA 5, Groton-Dunstable 0 — In the later match, Nashoba’s Emma Hakala (8-0), Kaylin Castles (8-2) and Bella MacNeil (8-2) all won their singles matches. Also for Nashoba (7-6), the first-doubles team of Leah Farinella and Brianna Ankstitus (8-3) and the second-doubles team of Emily Boucher and Iria Rodriguez Montero (8-4) were victorious.
