Grant will help Massachusetts keep Roving Archivist program

December 23, 2018

BOSTON (AP) — Massachusetts has received a federal grant to help it continue its Roving Archivist program.

The Roving Archivist has been around since 2012. The program offers free advice and help to cultural heritage institutions across Massachusetts as they grapple with a range of issues including the physical and digital preservation of historical records and the ability to provide online access to collections.

The Roving Archivist program is overseen by Democratic Massachusetts Secretary of State William Galvin.

Galvin said the program has made a real difference in preserving and providing access to Massachusetts’ historical records. He said the program is particularly important in a state like Massachusetts with its rich heritage.

Galvin announced this week that the state had received an $80,000, two-year federal grant to help continue the program.
