High surf rolls ashore along California coast

VENTURA, Calif. (AP) — High surf is rolling ashore along the California coast, and authorities are warning of potential flooding of low-lying areas during high tides.

The San Diego Fire-Rescue Department tweeted Wednesday that lifeguards closed Ocean Beach Pier as waves reached public areas of the pier.

West of Los Angeles, the city of Ventura has closed its pier as a safety precaution. That pier sustained damage during a recent storm.

The National Weather Service says the large westward swell generating the surf will last until late Wednesday or Thursday morning, depending on location.
