Gunmen Kill British Businessman in Turkey
ISTANBUL, Turkey (AP) _ A gunman killed a British businessman who was on his way to the office Monday, a British Embassy spokesperson said.
Two underground organizations, the Islamic Jihad and the leftist Dev Sol organization, claimed responsibility in anonymous telephone calls to news organizations, newspapers said.
Andrew Blake, 33, deputy director of the British Commercial Union Insurance Co., was shot twice in the head right after he stepped out of an elevator, the semi-official Anatolia news agency reported.
Dev Sol also claimed the bombing of the company’s office in Istanbul’s Esentepe district in January. The bombing caused slight damage.
Police refused to comment about the claims.
