Third woman charged in connection with drug investigation
A third woman has been charged in connection with a drug investigation in Scottsbluff and Gering.
Police arrested Mistie Cleays on a warrant issued Feb. 13 in Scotts Bluff County Court.
According to an arrest affidavit, investigators with the WING taskforce conducted a controlled buy with suspect at a Scottsbluff apartment on Aug. 20. Officers purchased 18 grams of methamphetamine. The apartment involved in the apartment belonged to Mistie Cleays and is located within 1,000 feet of Veterans of Park.
Cleays has been charged with aiding and abetting the distribution of methamphetmaine (more than 18 grams but less than 28 grams) within 1000 feet of a playground, a Class IC felony.
Cleays arrest is the third arrest in the investigation. To date, two other women, Carmen Marquez, 30, and Jennifer Edward, 32, of Lyman, were arrested on charges.
Marquez, of Gering, is accused of being involved by using a taxi service to facilitate the trafficking of drugs and was charged with conspiracy to commit a felony (distribution of a controlled substance), a Class ID felony. An informant told police that Marquez’s taxi service, called Fly Rides Taxi, was used in conducting buys. The service was allegedly used in the August controlled buy and in a second controlled buy in December at an apartment in Terry’s Lake. Police stopped the vehicle after the December controlled buy and Marquez was identified as the driver. She was arrested on a warrant last week.
Edwards, who faces two counts of possession of a controlled substance, was arrested after police conducted a search of the Jan. 30 Terrytown apartment.
Another woman named in the arrest affidavit, Jennifer Edwards, 32, of Lyman, had been charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance, a Class IV felony, after police conducted a search of the Terrytown apartment on Jan. 30. During the search, police located a smoking device with residue inside a lockbox with documents belonging to Edwards. Edwards’ case is pending trial in Scotts Bluff County District Court.
Cleays remains jailed at the Scotts Bluff County Detention Center on a $500,000 bond. Cleays’ is scheduled to be arraigned on charges Wednesday in Scotts Bluff County Court.
