Minors: Quintana blasts two more homers
Gabriel Quintana’s power surge continued Friday with two more home runs in Double-A San Antonio’s 5-4 win over Northwest Arkansas in Texas League action.
Quintana drove in two runs on his blasts, giving him 19 on the season. Two days earlier, the 23-year-old third baseman homered in both games of a doubleheader.
He is hitting .249 on the season and has driven in 64 runs for the Missions (51-73).
Nick Schulz (.284) also drove in three runs on his ninth homer.
Left-hander Tim Berry (8.33) allowed two runs in five innings in the win.
Lancaster 6, Storm 3: LHP Jerry Keel (2-2, 6.14) allowed four runs – three earned – in five innings. SS Chase Jensen (.345) went 3-for-4 with a double and CF Michael Gettys (.305), LF Taylor Kohlwey (.333) and DH Fernandez Perez (.217) each had two hits.
Lake County 3, TinCaps 2: RHP Jacob Nix (2-7, 3.99) allowed three runs – one earned – on five hits and two walks in the loss. 3B Carlos Belen (.231) went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI and SS Peter Van Gansen (.232) went 2-for-5 with a double and a run scored.
Everett 8, Dust Devils 1: RHP Hansel Rodriguez (0-1, 7.53) allowed seven runs on three hits and three walks in two innings. CF Buddy Reed (.224) and DH Boomer White (.243) each had two hits. In their Tri-City debuts, SS Fernando Tatis Jr. went 1-for-3 and 3B Hudson Potts went 0-for-3.
Cubs 6, Padres 1: RHP Jean Garcia (1-4, 3.60) allowed five runs – four earned – in four innings. 2B Jose Savinon went 2-for-4 with a triple and an RBI in his first game.
Padres 13, Reds 2: CF Edward Burgos (.316) and C Juan Fernandez (.350) each drove in two runs. LHP Cristian Machuca (3-5, 4.15) allowed two runs – one earned – in five innings.
Note: Triple-A El Paso’s game was rained out.
