Sikorsky to build newer S-92 with operating savings
Sikorsky Aircraft has designed a new variant of its S-92 helicopter that will be cheaper to operate, featuring larger windows, cabin doors and on-board systems for offshore operations including search-and-rescue missions.
Sikorsky has produced more than 300 S-92 helicopters in the past 15 years, with its headquarters plant located in Stratford as a subsidiary of Lockheed Martin.
Sikorsky plans to make the new S-92B available beginning in 2022, with the aircraft to include SuperSearch technology designed to shave up to 30 percent off the time needed to locate objects.
