Winter weather coming through Polk County, accumulation beginning on roadways
Polk County Public Works Director Michael Gravett has a simple message for residents who might be thinking about traveling tonight: get home, and stay home.
"Currently we’re starting to see some accumulation on the roads," Gravett said as he traveled around the county on patrol with Public Works crews who are out with equipment trying to keep the roads open.
He said that with the accumulation and the temperatures dropping, he expects road conditions by early morning to be difficult to drive on.
"Bridges and roads are being treated to give Public Safety officials a corridor to get to emergencies, but people should stay in for now," he said.
