Puget Island man sentenced in shooting at officers

LONGVIEW, Wash. (AP) — A Washington state man accused of shooting at two Wahkiakum County deputies and a state trooper is expected to be sent home this week.

The Daily News reports 55-year-old Lee Wages of Puget Island was sentenced Monday to six months in jail and 15 years of state Department of Corrections supervision after pleading guilty to three assault counts.

Wages was arrested in March after firing at the officers and triggering a four-hour standoff with police. His family says he has been diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia.

Prosecutor Dan Bigelow says Wages should be sent home this week because he has been in jail since his arrest.

Bigelow says the unusual plea deal was “the best way to protect Lee, and protect the world from Lee.”
