Robert Thompson to speak at SAR meeting
HUNTINGTON - One of West Virginia’s leading authors, Robert M. Thompson, will be the featured speaker at the Thursday, May 9, meeting of the General Andrew Lewis Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution. The meeting is set for 7 p.m. at the Enslow Park Presbyterian Church in Huntington.
Thompson will focus on one of his newest books, “Ramsdell: A Southern Yankee.”
Z.D. Ramsdell is famous for his home which still stands in Ceredo. Ramsdell was a New Englander who settled in a slave state before the Civil War and went on to serve in the Union Army until Lee’s surrender at Appomattox.
After the war, Ramsdell served in the West Virginia State Senate and worked to rebuild a war torn region.
Thompson, like Ramsdell, is a member of the state Legislature, and is a teacher in the public school system.
The public is welcome and refreshments will be served. His books will be available for sale at the meeting.
