Summerville police name suspect in fatal shooting at Colonial Village at Waters Edge apartments
Summerville police identified a man they believe is responsible for a fatal shooting at an apartment complex last week.
Tyree Jarell Steed, a 23-year-old North Charleston resident, is wanted on suspicion of murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime, said Lt. Nick Santanna, a police spokesman.
Steed is described as being about 5-foot-9 and 141 pounds, Santanna said. He has black hair and brown eyes.
His last known place of residence was on Delhi Road, according to court records.
The shooting left 28-year-old North Charleston resident Adrian Dwan Haley dead, according to the Dorchester County Coroner’s Office.
Police were called around 4:30 p.m. Thursday to the Colonial Village at Waters Edge apartments, 9989 Dorchester Road, the Coroner’s Office said.
It was not immediately clear whether Steed has a prior criminal record in Dorchester or Berkeley counties. A search of online court records under his name yielded no results.
Steed was previously implicated in the 2015 shooting death of a 16-year-old boy in North Charleston; however, prosecutors dropped the charges against him in September — one count each of murder and possessing a weapon during the commission of a violent crime — citing lack of witness cooperation and an account of self-defense in the shooting that would be difficult to disprove.
