Trump departs for North Korea summit in Vietnam
President Trump departed at lunchtime Monday for a major summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un in Vietnam, where he hopes to convince the shadowy leader to give up his nuclear ambitions and open his country to global development.
Air Force One is not expected to touch down in Hanoi until early Tuesday, D.C. time, though it will be evening in the Asian country.
Mr. Trump, who did not speak to reporters as he departed on a windy day, earlier predicted it would be a “tremendous” two-day summit his second with Mr. Kim after a meeting in Singapore last year.
“We want denuclearization, and I think he’ll have a country that will set a lot of records for speed in terms of an economy,” Mr. Trump said.
