September Student of the Month: Sierra Lynn Villarreal

Sierra Lynn Villarreal, 17, of Sterling is one of Sterling High School’s September Students of the Month. Her parents are Ray Villarreal and Teresa Tomorrow. She has three brothers, Joshua, Quinten and Noah.

Favorite class: Math because it is intriguing and makes me think.

Least-favorite class: English because it is hard to look deeper into a book and see more meaning.

Favorite teacher: Mr. Steve Johnson, because he teaches science in a fun way.

School activities in which you participate: Band, softball, the mentor program, National Honor Society, math and robotics team.

Civic, church, volunteer or activities in which you participate: None.

Do you have a job? I do not have a job.

How would you describe your group of friends? I would describe my groups of friends as Queens.

What will you do after high school? I hope to become an architect.

What is something you learned in high school that you think you’ll never use? I don’t think I will ever use the knowledge of insect classes, nor the parts of a crayfish.

What kind of music are you listening to? Fall Out Boy.

What’s one thing in your life you can’t do without? Music.

What is your advice for surviving high school? Only do what you want to do and not what someone else wants you to do.

If you could change one thing about your school, what would it be? I would change the advertisement of sports. I always see athletes being recognized, but never anyone in band, choir, or any other clubs at Sterling.

What scares you? Bats.

If you could try any job for the day, what would it be? I would try being a movie director because being a movie director is a huge responsibility, but I also think it would be fun.

If you could go anywhere in the world for free, where would it be? I would go to Antarctica, just so I could say I have been to Antarctica.

What is a good book you have read recently? “All We Have Left,” by Wendy Mills.

What is your proudest moment? When the superintendent congratulated me on my test scores.

Who is your hero/role model? My older brother, Joshua.

What do you think your life will be like 10 years from now? I think I will have moved out of Sterling and live in a city as an architect.

Is there anything else you want people to know about you? There isn’t anything else I want people to know about me.

What is your life’s philosophy? Sometimes before it gets better, the darkness gets bigger.
