NORFOLK — Donald W. Frese, 89, of Norfolk, died Friday, Aug. 19, 2016, at the Norfolk Veterans Home.
A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 24, at Christ Lutheran Church, rural Columbus, with the Rev. Aaron Witt officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery with military honors by the American Legion Hartman Post 84 Honor Guard. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at Gass Haney Funeral Home in Columbus and 9:30-10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Memorials may be directed to Right to Life or the Lutheran Hour.
Don was born May 4, 1927, in Columbus to Paul Gerhard and Lucy Irene (Loseke) Frese. He was baptized and confirmed at Christ Lutheran Church, and received his education at Christ Lutheran School. Don entered the United States Army on July 26, 1951, and was honorably discharged on June 16, 1953, serving during the Korean War. Except for his two years in the military, Don spent his entire life in the Columbus area, farming until he retired in 1992. Don was a member of Christ Lutheran Church where he had served as a trustee and treasurer. He was also a member of the American Legion.
Don is survived by his sister-in-law, Elizabeth Frese of Columbus; brother-in-law, Alvin Rickert of Columbus; and many nieces and nephews.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Paul Gerhard and Lucy Irene Frese; infant brother, Paul G. Frese; brother, Lawrence Frese; sister, Mabel Rickert; and sister and brother-in-law, JoAnn and Herman Ernst.
