Pocatello street shut down due to breached natural gas line
POCATELLO — A natural gas leak on the city’s north side resulted in a street being closed to traffic.
The section of Willard Avenue near East Alameda Road and the Fred Meyer retail store was shut down around noon Wednesday after a backhoe accidentally breached a nearby natural gas line.
The closure was expected to remain in place until the gas line can be repaired — likely later Wednesday afternoon.
The gas leak was caused by contractors doing work for Intermountain Gas, which owns the gas line.
Intermountain Gas crews quickly responded to the breach and shut off the gas line.
The incident did not result in any evacuations, explosions or injuries.
The Pocatello Fire Department also responded to the leak and shut down Willard Avenue as a safety precaution until the gas line can be repaired.
