Joyce A. Dohmen, 77, of Columbus, died Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2018, at Columbus Community Hospital.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 16, at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church, 1565 18th Ave. in Columbus. A vigil will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 15, at St. Bonaventure Church, with a 4:30 p.m. CDA rosary, also at the church. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday at the church, and will continue from 9:30 a.m. until service time on Friday morning at the church. Interment will be held on Friday at All Saints Cemetery in Columbus. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.
Joyce was born Feb. 10, 1941, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, to Arnold and Jennie Nelson. She attended grade school at District 58, and graduated from Newman Grove High School in 1958, where she was valedictorian. She was the Nebraska Dairy Princess in 1959. She attended Wayne State College, where she received her elementary education degree. Joyce married Paul Dohmen on Feb. 14, 1962, in Columbus. Joyce taught for Columbus Public Schools for 38 years, and then was a substitute teacher for 17 years.
She is survived by husband, Paul Dohmen of Columbus; daughter, Shari (Mike) Logue of Chandler, Arizona; daughter, Suzanne (Steve) Tooley of Omaha; daughter, Pam (Greg) Ellis of Janesville, Wisconsin; grandchildren, Mickala (Ray) Gunby, Jerica (Charlie) Campbell, Morgan, Blake and Laura Tooley, Peyton, Shayne, Nathan and Kayley Ellis; brother, Craig (Carla) Nelson of Newman Grove; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by parents, Arnold and Jennie Nelson.
