Stevie Nicks Denies Witch Rumor
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (AP) _ Fleetwood Mac singer Stevie Nicks says the old rumor that she’s a witch still isn’t true.
``I can’t believe people are still telling me I’m a witch because I wear black,″ Nicks said in a statement Thursday.
She was responding to criticism from music minister Scott Naden of Southwood Presbyterian Church, which banned five seniors from playing her song ``Landslide″ at Huntsville High School’s baccalaureate program Sunday.
The students said Naden and church officials decided the ballad, written by Nicks, was inappropriate because they consider the singer a Satan worshipper. Nicks denied it.
Nicks said the group plans to dedicate the song to the students at a June 29 concert at Oak Mountain Amphitheater in Pelham.
Naden declined to comment to the Huntsville Times.
Nicks’ publicist, Liz Rosenberg, said the rumor has dogged Nicks for years after she once talked about a mythological witch in a newspaper article.
``The press picked up on it, and they’ve been confused about it ever since,″ Rosenberg said.
