Jumper taken for evaluation

MOUNT CARMEL, Ill. — Authorities took a man who reportedly jumped off the Wabash River Bridge around noon Wednesday to Wabash General Hospital for treatment and evaluation.

Mount Carmel Police confirmed in a press release issued Thursday afternoon that the department received the 11:58 a.m. emergency call regarding a man jumping off the bridge into the river.

Police, the Wabash County Sheriff’s Office, Mt. Carmel Fire Department, Wabash General Ambulance Service and Wabash County Water Rescue responded, locating the man, age 38, floating about 1.5 miles south of the bridge. The man, whose identity was not released by police, was retrieved by boat and transported to a waiting ambulance, then taken to WGH. Police said no other information was available Thursday afternoon.
