Fort Stockton safe house closed
The Lilah Smith Safe House in Fort Stockton, a satellite shelter of the Crisis Center of West Texas, was closed after the executive board of the agency voted to cease its operation.
Operation and oversight of the safe house became unsustainable due to staffing turnover in the area and the distance from the administrative offices located in Odessa, a news release from Crisis Center of West Texas stated.
CCWTX assisted First Response Ministries in opening the shelter and establishing operational procedures in April 2017 and will continue to partner with First Response Ministries as they move forward to re-open Lilah Smith Safe House as an independent shelter, the release stated.
The crisis center will continue to provide outreach and non-resident services to Pecos County due to the need for services for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault in that area.
