Lois Doughty-Appel

SIOUX CITY | Lois D. Doughty-Appel, 90, of Abbott, Texas, formerly of Sioux City, passed away Monday, Sept. 5, 2016, in Waco, Texas.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Monday in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Yankton, S.D. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux City.

Lois was born on Sept. 1, 1926, in Sioux City, the daughter of John and Florence (Wharton) Butler. Lois grew up in Sioux City.

She married Roy Doughty on June 9, 1947 in Sioux City. He passed away on June 17, 1976, in Yankton. She married Donald Appel on Dec. 31, 1991 in Sioux City. He passed away on Dec. 11, 2000 in Sioux City. Lois worked at the Black Steer Restaurant in Yankton for many years. She was a hard worker and was an excellent cook and enjoyed baking pies. Lois also enjoyed being outdoors and gardening.

While living in Sioux City, Lois was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church and enjoyed volunteering at the Church Bargain Center.

Survivors include her children, Michael Doughty and his wife, Amanda of Mesa, Ariz., and Patricia Blaha and her husband, John Blaha, Jr. of Abbott, Texas; two brothers, John Butler and his wife, Phyllis and Billy Kearnes and his wife Kay; her sister, Donnafae Dean; five grandchildren, Laura, Sean, Jordan, Anne and John III; and five great-grandchildren.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; and three brothers, Wallace, Jimmy Ray, and Kenny.
