San Antonio Rampage surge in third period, beating Texas Stars
In their 74th match, the San Antonio Rampage won when trailing entering the third period for the first time this season.
San Antonio fell behind the Texas Stars by two during the second period but ripped off four unanswered goals for a 5-3 win on Wednesday at the H-E-B Center at Cedar Park.
Joey LaLeggia scored two goals and added an assists for the Rampage. Ryan Olsen also had a three-point game, scoring a goal with two assists. Mitch Reinke and Robby Jackson also scored for San Antonio.
The game was tied at 1 at the first intermission before Texas scored twice in the first five minutes of the second period to build a two-goal lead. LaLeggia scored midway through the second period, then tallied again about five minutes into the third. Jackson scored about a minute after LaLeggia’s second goal, and Olsen added an empty-net goal in the closing seconds.
The Rampage were outshot 34-20. San Antonio goalie Jared Coreau made 31 saves.
San Antonio is 30-37-6 with two matches remaining in the season, assured of a last-place finish in the Central Division. The Rampage host the Stars in San Antonio’s home finale at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
