Sterling church will host MLK celebration
STERLING – In honor of Martin Luther King Jr., a celebration of peace and justice will be held at 3:30 p.m. Sunday at First Presbyterian Church, 410 Second Ave.
There will be the Rev. Johnny Cooper, pastor of Macedonia Baptist Church in Sterling, will speak, and the Macedonia Baptist Church Choir, the City of God Church’s Praise and Worship Team, and Donald and Robert LeBlanc will provide the music.
The Martin Luther King Jr. Peace and Justice Awards for education and social service will be presented, and Pamela Knight, the Department of Children and Family Services worker from Dixon who died after being beaten while taking a child into protective custody, will be awarded.
Art pieces donated by Sauk Valley residents also will be on display, as a kickoff to a yearlong art tour presented by the Diversity Committee of the Sauk Valley.
An offering will be received, and a meal will be served to cap off the celebration.
