Dennis A. Guse, 80, Valparaiso, Indiana, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2017.

He was born March 14, 1937, in Beaver Dam, to Albert and Evelyn Guse. Dennis attended the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh and Indiana University and then served with the Army Reserves from 1961-1967. His career began as a professor of communication at Indiana State University then at Valparaiso University from 1967-1999, with additional teaching at Purdue North Central. Dennis enjoyed travel and reading, along with cheering on his beloved Green Bay Packers. He was devoted to his wife, family and the numerous animal companions that shared their home over the decades.

On Aug. 22, 1964, he married Virginia Lakatos who survives; along with his brother, Donald (Jean) Guse; brother-in-law, Gifford Robinette; sister-in-law, Marsha Hurtt; and nieces and nephews, Michelle, P.K., Katie and Kristen Das, Janet and Randy Newman, Dean, Ida, Candace, Jenna, Andy, Dakotah and Bryce Guse and Stephanie Dyonzak.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister-in-law, Susan Robinette; and his father- and mother-in-law, Stephen and Helen Lakatos.

A visitation will be held Monday from 1 to 3 p.m. at Moeller Funeral Home, 104 Roosevelt Rd., Valparaiso, with a memorial service beginning at 3 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the VNA of NWI, Valparaiso Kiwanis, animal shelter rescue or the church of your choice.
