The only thing more impressive than the Komets’ continuing dominance of the Indy Fuel may be Shawn Szydlowski’s productivity of late.

His three goals and four points Saturday propelled the Komets to their second 5-2 victory over the Fuel in as many nights as Fort Wayne (15-7-2) has won 10 of its last 12 games.

Szydlowski has tallied at least a point in 11 of the last 12 games, with 10 goals and 21 points along the way. He has scored a goal in three straight games, five goals and eight points in that span.

As for the Komets’ dominance over the Fuel, they are 3-0-0 in the season series and have won 11 of the last 12.

Over the last five seasons, the Komets have a 26-5-3 record against the Fuel, including a 12-5-0 mark at Indiana Farmers Coliseum, where they played Saturday in front of 3,341 fans.

Michael Houser stopped 45 shots for the Komets. Matt Tomkins had 41 saves for the Fuel (8-13-3), which has lost three of its last four games.

The Fuel opened the scoring 6:42 into the first period when Michael Neal completed a tic-tac-toe passing play by redirecting the puck in from 12 feet out for a power-play goal. It was his team-leading 10th goal of the season and the second straight game he opened the scoring.

Szydlowski tied it by faking a shot from the point as Indy’s Matt Rupert slid right by, then dashing to the right circle to snap the puck in at 10:31. Fort Wayne’s Zac Larraza made it 2-1 with a shot from a difficult angle in the right corner 2:39 into the second period, but Indy’s Cam Reid tied it at 10:33.

Szydlowski regained the lead, 3-2, during a power-play at 12:25 with a one-timer from the top of the left circle and Mason Baptista made it 4-2 with a short-handed goal 4:40 into the third period.

Szydlowski completed his hat trick by snapping a shot from 45 feet out at 15:06 for the Komets, who take on the Quad City Mallards on Wednesday at Moline, Illinois.
