CHELMSFORD, Mass. (AP) — Police say a 53-year-old man from Washington state was hit by a truck and killed on Route 495 north in Chelmsford.

It happened around 2:30 a.m. Thursday. State police say their preliminary investigation indicates the man was hit by a 2012 Peterbilt truck owned by a North Dakota company. Police do not know why the Washington man was on the highway or how he got there. They did not release his name.

The righthand lane of Route 495 and the ramp to Exit 34 were closed for about two-and-a-half hours while police investigated.
