WRESTLING ROUNDUP: Berwick’s Yule, Snyder Win Titles

Berwick’s Nick Yule and JJ Snyder won the 126 and 195-pound weight classes respectively over the weekend at the Jim Thorpe Christmas Tournament.

Berwick finished seventh out of 17 teams.

Yule won by pin in the quarterfinals and then by decision in the semifinals and finals. Snyder received a bye into the semifinals where he won by pin, then scored a 6-4 decision to win his title.

Berwick also got fourths from Maurice Smith (138) and Oscar Perla (160). Chris Mausteller (120) and Noah Craig (220) won eighth.

Noonan wins for Hazleton Area

Hazleton Area finished 11th out of 32 teams at the Bethlehem Holiday Wrestling Classic.

Shane Noonan won the 220-pound weight class to top the Cougars’ entries. He recored two second-round pins in his first two matches, then scored a pin in 40 seconds to win his semifinal. In the championship match, Noonon scored a 7-2 decision.

He keeps his season record spotless, now at 14-0.

The Cougars also go a fourth-place finish from Charles Everdale (152), a sixth from Jake Marnell (170) and a seventh from Christian Kislan (132).

Lake-Lehman’s Long brings home a title

Lake-Lehman finished 13th out of 27 teams over the weekend at the Conestoga Valley Holiday Classic.

The Black Knight’s Bob Long took first at 132 pounds with four wins.

He opened his tournament with a first-round pin in just over a minute, then won a quarterfinal bout with a second-round pin.

He scored an 11-3 decision in his semifinal, and a 9-3 decision in the championship match.

Also, Hunter Burke (145) and Jake Trumbower (152) won fifth place, TJ Meehan (220) won sixth and Zach Stuart (126) and Nick Zaboski (170) won seventh.
