Trail to be built along preserved area of North Branch
MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) — The Vermont Land Trust says a recreation trail is going to be built on a section of the North Branch of the Winooski River between Worcester and Elmore.
The area includes the North Branch Cascades, which features seven cascading waterfalls and natural swimming holes along a one-mile stretch of the river, which runs beside Vermont Route 12.
Work on culverts to manage stormwater has been completed and trail work begun. Two small parking areas are planned. The completed trail will include a pedestrian bridge, scenic overlooks, educational kiosks and many opportunities to access pools in the river.
It’s expected the trails will be ready for use by next fall.
The trust donated 72 acres of land along the river to the Vermont River Conservancy.
