A man who allegedly held a woman hostage in a trailer at a mobile home park in Dodgeville on Monday fled the trailer before police busted in, but was found hours later and arrested in Barneveld.

Danny Parnell, 41, was taken into custody after 9 p.m. at a convenience store, tentatively charged with false imprisonment, being a felon in possession of a firearm and battery, Dodgeville police said.

Police were called to the park on Third Street at 1:15 p.m. for a possible hostage situation.

Police were told the hostage got out of the home but the suspect was still inside, possibly with a handgun.

Officers surrounded the home and got residents in homes near the targeted one out of the area, but when the emergency response team went in, Parnell wasn’t in the trailer.

Schools in the Dodgeville district went on soft lockdown as officers and Iowa County deputies conducted the search for Parnell.

Other agencies were brought in to look for the suspect, including the Grant and Lafayette County Sheriff’s Offices, the State Patrol, DNR and police from Mineral Point, Ridgeway, Barneveld, Cuba City, Mount Horeb, Arena and Belmont.

Parnell currently has a court appearance set for January from an incident in September in Iowa County, with Parnell charged with strangulation and false imprisonment.
