Five honored at annual Stamford Veterans Dinner
STAMFORD — Springdale Post No. 9617, Veterans of Foreign Wars, will again this year spearhead the effort to plant flags on veteran’s graves on Saturday in advance of Memorial Day commemorations.
The main effort will be at St. John’s Cemetery on the corner of Camp Ave and Hoyt Street. Planting begins at 8 a.m. All Stamford citizens and organizations are welcome to assist as there are many graves to honor.

Stamford has already recognized several local veterans at an awards dinner held Wednesday evening at Stamford Government Center.
Each year, veterans from each post nominate someone to be honored during the the Stamford Senior Center’s 16th Annual Veterans Dinner.
This year’s honorees were:
Cortland Mehl - nominated by the American Legion
Frederick Morabito - nominated by the Catholic War Veterans
Theodore Ogonek - nominated by the Veterans of Foreign Wars
Dan Sandford - nominated by the Disabled War Veterans
Richer Fisher - nominated by the Jewish War Veterans
