Foellinger Theatre could get additional speakers
Fort Wayne’s Foellinger Outdoor Theatre could soon receive additional speakers after a unanimous vote by the parks board.
The speakers, which are two years old, will meet the needs of almost all of the tours that pass through the Foellinger Theatre. They will also save the Parks Department time and money associated with renting equipment necessary to put on a show, said Mitch Sheppard, the department’s deputy director of community outreach.
The existing speaker system was installed for different shows and for a smaller venue. Foellinger Theatre has expanded over the years to include new seats.
The total cost of the equipment is $168,340. The money would come from revenue generated by ticket sales and theater rentals.
“At this point all of our promoters rent equipment and bring it in, and for many of the shows we rent equipment and bring it in,” Sheppard said. “We’re very conservatively estimating we save rental expenses of approximately $26,000 this year.”
The expenditure must now go to Fort Wayne City Council for final approval.
The parks board also approved a fee to allow performers to rent the speaker system for performances. That fee is $4,000.
“We wish to incentivize (performers) to use our system because we believe it to be high-quality and we will save all the time and money in putting it up and taking it down,” Sheppard said.
