STORRS, Conn. (AP) _ Kara Wolters scored 22 points and led a well-balanced attack Monday night, carrying Connecticut past Michigan State 88-68 in the second round of the Mideast Regional.

Jennifer Rizzotti added 18 points and Jamelle Elliott had 17 for top-seeded UConn (32-3), which advanced to a round of 16 matchup against No. 12 seed San Francisco, which upset fourth-seeded Duke earlier Monday night.

Nykesha Sales was the fourth starter in double figures for the Huskies, who won their 18th straight game in their last appearance of the season before a sellout crowd of 8,241 his season at Gampel Pavilion.

Rizzotti, a senior who along with Elliot was playing in her last home game, scored 16 points in the first half, including three 3-pointers, as UConn opened a 43-33 lead and stayed out of jeopardy the rest of the way.

Wolters, limited to nine minutes in the first half because of two fouls, was a second-half force for the Huskies, scoring 13 points to help keep the defending national champions in command.

Tamika Matlock had 15 points and Zareth Gray 13 for Michigan State (18-11), a ninth seed. The school was making its second appearance in an NCAA tournament after finishing fifth in the Big Ten.

Rizzotti led a late first-half charge for the Huskies. UConn took control for good on a 3-pointer by Sales that made it 21-19, sending the Huskies on a 21-8 run. The Spartans drew no closer than nine points early in the second half.
