Wind chill advisory through noon, some snowflakes possible New Year’s Day in Akron: Weather forecast

AKRON, Ohio – Akronites will need to be extra careful when spending time outdoors New Year’s Eve night through noon New Year’s Day.

“Very cold wind chills [are] expected,” says the weather service, “The cold wind chills will cause frostbite in as little as 30 minutes to exposed skin.” The forecast negative wind chills prompted a wind chilly advisory from the National Weather Service starting 10 p.m. Sunday night that’s expected to expire noon Monday, right when wind chills in Akron will hit above -6 degrees.

While actual temperatures are much less frosty in the single digits in the morning and evening and around 10 degrees for the afternoon, the breezy winds will make it feel much colder.

Otherwise, some light snow could pop up, but chances are slight as the majority of the snow will result from lake-effect and therefore instead target the east-side lake-effect belt where a few inches are possible.
