Humble ISD soccer roundup: Four teams advance to regional tournament

Four Humble ISD teams are headed to the regional tournament after picking up wins in the regional quarterfinals on Friday night.

The Atascocita, Kingwood Park and Kingwood girl’s soccer teams will represent Humble ISD in the regional tournament.

Kingwood defeated Deer Park 3-1 in a Class 6A regional quarterfinal match at Turner Stadium Friday night.

Catherine Childs scored the first goal for the Lady Mustangs off a penalty kick. Emma Ebert added a goal assisted by Savannah Moore and then Ebert followed with her second goal of the game after a deflecting off of Elle Smith.


Kingwood will play Katy Cinco Ranch in a Region III-6A semifinal match on Friday at 2:30 p.m. at Abshier Stadium in Deer Park.

Meanwhile, Atascocita went to penalty kicks to advance to the Region III-6A tournament.

Bri Hoffman kicked the ball in the back of the net for the winning goal as the Lady Eagles defeated Clear Spring 4-3 in penalty kicks.

Atascocita will take on Katy Tompkins in a Region III-6A match at 12:30 p.m. at Abshier Stadium on Friday.

The winner of both matches will play in the Region III-6A final at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Abshier Stadium with a chance the advance to state.

K-Park’s Byrd shines

Allie Byrd had a hat trick as Kingwood Park defeated College Station 3-2 in a Class 5A regional quarterfinal match.

The Lady Panthers trailed 2-1 at halftime, but two of Byrd’s goals came in the second half to seal the victory. Katherine Tiedtke had two assists and Leah Hoyt added one assist.

The Lady Panthers will play Port Neches Grove in a Region III-5A match at 11 a.m. Friday at Turner Stadium.

The winner advances to the Region III-5A final at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Turner Stadium.

K-Park boys advance too

For the boys, K-Park defeated Pflugerville Connally 3-1 in its Class 5A regional quarterfinal match.

The Panthers will play Goose Creek Memorial in a Region III-5A semifinal match at 6 p.m. Friday at Turner Stadium.

This is the first time since 2017 that the Panthers have made it to the regional tournament.

The winner will advance to the Region III-5A final at 1 p.m. Saturday at Turner Stadium.

Season ends in regional quarterfinals for Humble boys

Humble’s magical season came to an end Friday night.

The Wildcats lost a 2-1 decision to Strake Jesuit at Turner Stadium.

Humble was in the playoffs in Class 6A for the first time in six years. The Wildcats made it to the regional quarterfinals for the first time since 1993.
