HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: Wahl powers GA past Hotchkiss in water polo
The Greenwich Academy water polo team raised its record to 2-0 with a 14-9 victory over host Hotchkiss School on Wednesday.
Borden Wahl scored a team-high seven goals to power the Gators. GA took control of the game with a five-goal first quarter.
Wahl, Kayla Yelensky and Quinn Scannell helped the Gators’ offense click throughout.
Lulu Meissen was strong in goal for GA, which was led defensively by Camille Daigle. Scannell had three assists in the win.
SACRED HEART TENNIS
After edging King School on Tuesday, the Tigers cruised to an 8-1 win against Choate Rosemary Hall at Sound Shore Indoor Tennis in Port Chester, N.Y.
Jackie Beshoory of Sacred Heart beat Madison Mandel at first singles, 8-5. Grace Coale won at second singles for the Tigers, 8-3, while Stephanie Beshoory beat Caroline Quinn, 8-3.
At fourth singles, Nathalie Perrault won her match, 8-2, while Tigers teammate Juliette Guice was victorious at No. 6, 9-8 (4).
The Tigers swept the three doubles matches in the win.
GREENWICH ACADEMY LACROSSE
The Gators blanked Hamden Hall on the road in an FAA match, 12-0.
Maggie Reville made five saves for the shutout. Holly Johnson scored twice, as did Anna Khoury and Olivia Koorbusch for GA.
Eliza Bowman, Tessa Brooks, Courtney DeNaut, Katie Goldsmith and Tate Horowitz each had single goals in the win. Chapin Ruffa added two goals for the Gators.
Darien posted a 3-0 win over host Greenwich in an FCIAC match.
Alessandro Perrier had six kills and five service points, while Akira Dunham added five kills, seven service points and three digs for the Cardinals.
Tim Herget had 13 service points, eight kills, six aces and six digs, while Tyler Herget had 21 assists eight aces and eight aces for Darien.
Brunswick School suffered its first loss of the season, a 6-3 defeat to visiting Avon Old Farms.
Avon scored five runs in the fifth inning to take the lead. Aaron Sabato’s two-run homer gave the Bruins a 2-0 first inning lead. Ryan Hanrahan added an RBI double for Brunswick.
Matt Beninati allowed one earned run in his four innings on the mound. J.D. Sparks yielded four earned runs in three innings for the Bruins (5-1).
