LA HABRA, Calif. (AP) — Police say a homeless man was stabbed when he tried to stop a robbery at a suburban Southern California doughnut shop.

The La Habra Police Department says officers responding to a robbery call shortly before 4 a.m. Monday found a stabbing victim in his 40s.

Police say the man had stepped in to help the owner of the Donuts & Deli Shop when he saw him struggling with two people making off with items from the store.

The man, whose name was not released, was hospitalized in stable condition.

Officers, following the store owner’s description, arrested two people a short time later.

The suspects’ names were not released.

La Habra is located about 25 miles east of Los Angeles.
