Fishing Update for the Missouri River in SD

April 17, 2018 GMT

Most of South Dakota really got hit with a big snowstorm over the weekend, so there’s not much fishing activity right now. The calendar says it should warm up soon, so we’ll be waiting, albeir impatiently, for some warmer weather to come along and melt the ice.

REMINDER: Help stop the spread of Aquatic Invasive Species! Check out the Game, Fish and Parks website for detailed info on the regulations. They are very specific, so you’ll want to be sure you’ve read the regulations. If you love to fish the Missouri River in South Dakota, please do your part to keep the reservoirs free of aquatic invasive species.

Lake Oahe

In the Pollock and Mobridge areas, there is still enough ice that going out in a boat is not advisable. The ice is a bit too dangerous to be on, so look forward to some sunshine and warmer weather there.

At Gettysburg, there’s also plenty of ice that’s just waiting for a bit of warmer weather.

It’s the same story around Spring Creek and Cow Creek. There is plenty of ice, so wait for some warmer weather.

Lake Sharpe

Around the Pierre and Fort Pierre area, the water is open around the bridges. Some fish are being caught.
